Meet the Maker – Imogen’s Angels

5 minutes with/ Meet The Maker

Tell us about your business:

Imogens Angels is a celebration of love and laughter. It begins with a sprinkle of glitter, a dab of glue, a piece of sticky tape, bursts of colour and little fingers weaving craft magic. Immerse your kids in craft with our blog tutorials and original and creative bright, colourful, fun, easy to use craft kits that are available to purchase on-line and at a range of different outlets.

What inspired you to start your business?

My Imogen is my inspiration, she was passionate about craft. Imogens Angels helps me stay connected to her, even now as she flies the heavens crafting.

Is there an interesting anecdote behind your business name?

My business name comes from my daughters name, Imogen. She was diagnosed with childhood cancer in 2007 and became an angel in 2010.

What is the most satisfying part of what you do?

Connecting kids with craft and showing parents that sharing craft with their kids doesn’t have to be daunting or hard work.

Have you tried something in business that didn’t work as planned, or on the flip side “ worked out better than expected?

Originally I used to sell a wide range of polymer clay items. I found even though I loved this craft medium, there was not the demand for purchase of this type of craft. It was from this experience I decided to hone my small business into providing craft kits that supported my creative and simple small business philosophy.

What would be your best tip for someone thinking about selling their handcrafted goods?

It is important in a creative business to continue to evolve, listen to your customers {and take note of their purchasing}, try out new ideas and seek external help if needed. These three things will help you to continue to grow as a business owner and creative person.

What is your favourite item you make?

My super hero kit, as it inspires imaginative play and can be re-created time and time by using the cape holder and new crepe paper. It is the craft kit that keeps on giving.

Any personal or business highlights in the last year:

My personal highlight is my annual ˜Princess Ladybird week, in this week we celebrate my daughter Imogen and raise awareness and funds for Make-A-Wish Australia. In this week we sell green ˜Princess Ladybird brooches. This week every year brings for me;  joy, faith in generous and kind people and assists in my healing process for the loss of my little girl Imogen.

3 things about you  that people might not know:

  1. I love stationery. I am even fussy about what pen I will use to write, whether it is on a shopping list or personal note.
  2. I attend yoga every week and do yoga at home every night.
  3. I hate glace cherries and fruit cake.  When my Granma wrote her recipe book out for me, she would write a recipe with glace cherries in it, and then write under it “ you wont like this one : )
