Introducing: Lorenzo’s Playground

Featured/ Hand Made Blog/ Stationery

Rebecca, mum, teacher and designer at Lorenzo’s Playground tells us a little about her handmade business.

When my second child was born, I started ‘Lorenzo’s Playground’ as a creative outlet and it has grown over the past 18 months into the small business it is today. I specialise in handmade greeting cards, personalised wall prints and invitation design. At the same time, I also service small business and corporate clients, designing logos, business cards and other printed design material.

With Spring here again, I have dressed my little girl cards in bright floral prints and also added cheery Babushka cards to my range. All cards are handmade using high quality fabrics and embellishments. They are blank inside and come with a matching envelope. The girl cards can have their hair and clothing colour made to order. They also come in boy designs.

OH Baby! was created around the love of crochet and knitted items for babies and children. Their collections have a mix of modern and vintage designs with each and every item carefully hand created.  We believe that buying something crocheted or knitted is very special either for your own child or as a gift for someone.  OH Baby! create baby shoes and accessories and are currently expanding their crochet clothing ranges.

New items are added regularly and OH Baby! offer ready made items to purchase as well as custom orders.

At OH Baby! this Spring, they have introduced Baby Flats to the crocheted baby shoe range. Embellished with flowers, pearls and cute fabric bows. They make baby feet that little bit sweeter.

OH Baby!will also be adding cardis, dresses and tops to our crochet clothing collection in beautiful colours for Spring.

Make: Buckle Free Appliqués

Guest Post/ Hand Made Blog/ Make

Appliqués are one of the easiest ways to embellish childrens clothing.  Add to tees, hats, jeans or onesies to give them instant pop!

This tutorial will show you a few ways of achieving buckle free appliques.

  • A few helpful tools are : Stitch-N-Tear Pellon, a walking foot for your sewing machine & a light weight interfacing.
  • Cut your shape, press free of creases and then add your interfacing.
  • Pin a piece of Pellon, larger than your shape to the reverse side of the fabric. This acts as a stabilizer. It has a texture very similar to interfacing but it does not iron on. Using an interfacing is fine if you dont have Pellon.
  • Position your appliqué and pin.

  • Look for your applique stitch on your instructions panel.  It may just be your zig zag option.  The stitch length will be lower in number.
  • Swap over to a walking foot if you have one and do a few practise strips of stitching to ensure you have the right size. If you dont have a walking foot, loosening the pressure dial may help eliminate your fabric from puckering as it reduces the foots pressure as it feeds.
  • The applique edge should sit in the middle of your foot attachment.
  • When you get you corners, place your needle down into the fabric, lift foot, pivot.
  • Once completed, turn your fabric over and tear or cut away your stabilizer.
  • You will just be left with the outline.
  • Press from the top.
