Pin of the week!

Hand Made Blog/ Make

I spend a lot of time scouring Pinterest, I love it. It can be such a time waster, sort of like a vortex, it sucks you in and its very hard to escape. But it’s still fun.

So I though that I would share with you a pin a week that I find would be fun for the kids.

This weeks pin is perfect for this time of the year, lots of Autumn leaves about. Wild winds blowing them off the trees.

So simple and so cheap. We all have paper available and leaves are free. Most of us with little ones also have paints on hand. An easy activity for a quiet weekend.

Handmade markets this week…….

markets

The handmade goodness starts early in QLD this week with BrisStyle indie Twilight Market, on Friday night. These Friday night markets combine the laid-back attitude of south-east Queensland with the buzz of Brisbanes CBD to create a lantern lit celebration of local independent art, craft and design. Meander through the stalls of over 60 emerging and established local artisans who specialise in producing soulful and stylish handmade wares with a unique Queensland twist.

On Sunday youll find more at The Mummy Tree Market Morningside, which is a great opportunity to find out about work at home opportunities, sample gourmet food and to shop for boutique, chic, inspired family products and services.

In VIC, youll find Huckleberry Market whose aim is simple, to collect the best in boutique and handmade items for babies and children under one roof, have fun doing it and lend a helping hand at the same time.

Also the Mulgrave Makers Market is on, for all things handmade.

On Tuesday ABMT Autumn Market & Morning Tea is on which is made up of several local businesses who will be joining together to support this fantastic cause. A boutique selection of stalls including many handmade brands. Youll find Handbags & Accessories, Jewellery, Clothing, Greeting Cards & Stationery, Giftware and more.

Head over to Market Angels Cloud to meet our new Angels on the Street, then head over to Market Angel to see what markets are coming up over the coming weeks.

DIY make your own Terrarium

This is a super easy, fun little project that the kids will love! A little indoor garden that your kids can water and look after on their own.

Supplies needed

You will need:

  • A glass jar – it can be one with or without a lid.
  • Rocks or pebbles
  • Charcoal – available at garden centres, hardware stores or even pet shops
  • Potting mix
  • Moss – I dug mine up from a shady moist area in the garden
  • Gloves
  • An assortment of succulents and/or cacti. Succulents are great as cuttings – why not take a piece off a plant you may already have around the home

How to make your terrarium:

1. Take your clean glass jar and make a layer in the base with your rocks or pebbles. On top of the rock layer, make another layer with your charcoal. This will create a drainage system in your jar.

Layer your rocks and bark

2. On top of your charcoal, make a layer with the moss. This will stop the potting mix from falling through your charcoal and rocks.

3. Next layer your potting mix. Be sure to wear your gloves for this part. Once the potting mix is in, arrange your plants so that they look good. At this stage if you have room, you may even want to ad some little plastic figurines. I think some little animals might look good, maybe some dinosaurs…….

4. Arrange any left over pebbles or rocks around the top layer and you are done.

Told you it was easy and fun!
