Introducing: Frangipani Designs

Featured

Claire graduated from the National Art School in Darlinghurst where her
specialisation was photography. She commenced trading under the name
frangipani designs in 2000 on a part time basis, initially designing and
manufacturing wedding invitations. She soon moved on to other areas of graphic
design and then, in 2008, after working and gaining experience in various
photographers studios, she took the opportunity to develop her own full time
business as a child and family photographer.

Since then she has established a reputation for capturing her clients families in a
relaxed and informal manner. Her work clearly shows her enthusiasm for what
she creates and her generous interaction with kids and families. She excels at
using the natural light and surrounding bush of the North Shore where she is
based, but her reputation has now become Sydney wide and she has even been
asked to broaden her work to include commercial and product photography.
frangipani designs has now grown to the stage where it has developed a
complete range of offerings in addition to photography, including:
-branding and logo design
-invitation design
-intimate event styling
-digital photo restoration
-digital retouching
-scanning printing and framing

Recently Claire launched a new business called 17 studios which creates pieces
of art by upcycling and recycling unused items. The works include an eclectic
range of pinwheels, lanterns, mobiles, wall art and jewellery which can be viewed

iSew Academy

Introducing: iSew Academy

Featured/ Introducing

Within days, the iSewAcademy launches! Developed in Brisbane by Head Girls Louise Stuart and Belinda Scott, it’s a world’s first. The iSewAcademy is a free iPad app. But its more than just another app,  it’s a library and a store too. The iSew Academy store will fill with fabulous sewing projects that you can choose to purchase and the library will contain all your projects in one place.  The app is free and contains a lovely, complimentary project – the Noosa No Sew Fabric Flower. There will be a growing range of sewing projects available soon within the Academy store. Project purchase is simply through your usual iTunes payment method! How easy is that?

Once you select a project, you can send yourself a supplies shopping list, email a specific size pattern to print, then progress step by step through the project.  Each step is complimented by clear, simple instructions, useful photos and professional videos.

The videos are a really important learning component and as such we’ve made the investment in a high quality Production team, led by Pearce Hoskinson. Pearce has proven to be such an asset. His camera and post production skills were recently recognised as a 3rd place winner at Tropfest 2012.  We are so excited for Pearce and what the future holds for him in the world of film direction and production, but for now he’s making time for the Academy where he is Drama Prefect and House Captain of Burpengary!  Which brings us to another point – the iSewAcademy loves the whole St Trinians, Hogwarts vibe and has created 4 houses where people using the projects can come together and display their creations and get inspiration from others.  The sewing world is a warm community and we would like to install that warmth in the iSewAcademy where newbies can mingle with old girls and boys and learn, inspire and have a bit of fun!  Our house names were derived from Queensland town names that embody the academy ideals – uniquely Australian, traditional yet quirky and a little fun on the side!

Upcoming projects include – the Daintree Drawstring Dress, – Demi and full size, the Happy Halter, The Tangalooma Twirler Skirt, the Hot and Steamy Ironiing Board Cover and many more. We want people to know we’re Queenslanders and Aussies and we did this first!  We use imagery from Australia to inspire our sewers.  The patterns are sent to a printer to download and piece together, then throughout the project, the learner can use clickable cheat sheets as added tips to complement the standard steps.  Top of the class and additional content is available to those who complete the project.

Launch is just days away but it’s all with the Apple App Examination Board at the moment! Meanwhile Belinda and Louise are busily readying the first round of in-app projects that will be available in the coming weeks with another day of filming happening in the leafy suburbs of Brisbane this weekend.  The website is at www.isewacademy.com and there you very soon, you will be able to download lots of free tutorials, sign up for the Academy’s Schoolyard Gossip, and keep up to date on the exciting times ahead.. We are launching the website today so bear with us whilst we iron out those First Day blues… We have a YouTube channel too – just search for iSewAcademy within YouTube.  Our Facebook and twitter are all ready to go with some great giveaways and fun too.

Market Signage

Articles/ Guest Post

Guest Post

————————————–

After attending so many markets with my wife, there seems to be a common ˜feeling with the stalls and that is the signage. They have great products on display, but every stall looks the same.

Be bold, be creative, and just because pastels are in, dont be scared to use a bright colour and make your stall stand out from a distance to grab the attention of potential customers “ different is good.

Quality Vs Price

If you have the opportunity to purchase a better quality banner stand or image board ( corflute with a skin to prevent the ripples showing through the print ), I advise to do so. Upfront they cost a bit more but you get a lot more use out of them, and some sign shops offer warranty on the better quality stands.

With the corflute option, would you rather people look at your stall and think of a real estate sign, or that you invested in quality signage to promote a quality brand?

Business Printing

Business cards  was another noticeable down-fall for stall holders. They have been printed on low quality stock and sometimes poorly designed. Use a thick card like 350gsm or 420gsm, a matte celloglaze and have colour printed front and back.

Graphic Design

As for design, invest in a professional design created by a graphic designer. Remember, this is your brand and your product, you dont want to let it down with poorly designed promotional material and low quality printing.

The next time you are getting ready for the market, consider the above options, upgrade a little at a time and it will make a difference to the way people perceive your stall and your self-confidence.
