Handmade Kids Clever People Challenge

Challenge

In order to do something a little bit different here at Handmade Kids I thought I would issue a bit of a crafty challenge to those clever visitors to Handmade Kids.

Now I am not sure if this will appeal to anyone, but am throwing caution to the wind and giving it a go, you never know until you try do you?

So what do you have to do?

  • Let me know which Clever People Challenge Bag you want and I will send it off to you.
  • Your challenge is then to use what is in the bag to create something for kids.  Use one thing, use them all, make a bib, hair accessories, softie, whatever you like.
  • Once it is made, you send your creation back to me and we feature your fabulous creation on the blog with all your information.  You will have until 31st May to return your item.
  • The creations will then be used as a Handmade Kids giveaway.

Features:  56 x 50 cms Retro Toy Fabric, 50 x 20 cm tan cord fabric, 52 cm of cream ribbon, 52 cms of yellow ribbon, 52 cms of chocolate brown ribbon and 2 brown buttons.

Nothing to do with kids!

Today’s blog post has absolutely nothing to do with kids I am afraid.  This one is pure indulgence for the adults, it is handmade so surely it counts huh?

My group of friends regularly have catch up’s.  They always involve lots of food and drink, in fact I cannot wait for Irish Theme night shortly.  Our theme nights involve creating an interesting costume from our wardrobes, cooking the theme night dishes and over indulging.  They are always great fun.

Anyway I digress, this was the treat that CC made for us for Sunday’s drinks:

Seriously devine, if you want to try it out for yourself, here is the recipe:

Camembert En Croute with Fig Paste and Frozen Grapes

Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry
100g South Cape Fig or Quince Paste
1 x 250g wheel Tasmanian Heritage Camembert cheese, chilled
1 egg yolk lightly beaten with 1 teaspoon milk
1 tablespoon flaked almonds
200g red grapes, cut into small bunches and frozen

Method

Place pastry sheet onto a baking paper lined tray and place slices of fig paste in the centre roughly the size of the Camembert.

Place the Camembert on top, enclose in pastry, pinching edges together and place seam-side down on the tray.

Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with almonds. Bake at 200°C for 25-30 minutes or until pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Allow to stand at room temperature for at least 1 hour, before serving with frozen grapes.

Note: Camembert En Croute is an excellent party hors doeuvre to serve with drinks or in place of dessert with a sweet dessert wine.

Featured Store: Brusselsprouts

Featured Store

Brusselsprouts is another great Aussie store selling clothing for kids.  As well as this fabulous assortment of winter warmers featured above they also make a great range of cotton outfits as well from some great fabrics such as one of my favourites the Dick & Jane series.

Hand knitted items I always instantly attracted to.  I think part of it is because I struggle to knit a scarf so can appreciate how much work goes into creating something like the gorgeous jumpers and jackets featured above.

In the Brusselsprouts Made It store, is this seriously funky number, if only I lived somewhere cooler
