Tell us about your business:

My business is called ˜Little Treasures Personalised Handstamped Jewellery it was inspired by my love for jewellery, especially personalised jewellery.

What inspired you to start your business?

I have always loved jewellery and have dabbled in making it for years. Handstamped jewellery took my eye a couple of years ago. I soon learned the basics and things have taken off from there.

Is there an interesting anecdote behind your business name?

˜Little Treasures refers to my three little boys whom I love and treasure. I love wearing my jewellery with their names on , close to my heart.

What is the most satisfying part of what you do?

Getting great feedback from customers who love their pieces I make.

Have you tried something in business that didnt work as planned, or on the flip side “ worked out better than expected?

My whole experience with this venture has surprised me and worked out a whole lot better than I ever imagined.

What would be your best tip for someone thinking about selling their handcrafted goods?

Use Facebook, word of mouth and any free advertising you can gain! Look after customers, and they will become repeat customers.

What is your favourite item you make?

My favourite item would have to be my family tree range.

Any personal or business highlights in the last year:

Getting my Facebook page to 2000 likes and putting together and starting my very own website.

3 things about you  that people might not know:

I am also a part time primary school teacher.

I live on the land with my family.

I have three boisterous boys aged from 1-6 years that keep me busy.

Are you a helicopter parent ?

Articles/ Guest Post

Theres been a lot in the media about helicopter parenting lately. We read about it in newspapers and its a theme running through a new Australian television drama. We all know its wrong, that the end result of being overly protective can result in narcissistic children that lack resiliency and the ability to adapt in an adult world. But it can be incredibly difficult to let go and allow our children the freedom that we had when we were young.

We were able to discover the great outdoors freely, gathering packs of friends to make hideaways wherever we could find a tree. We roamed the wild streets unreservedly, rode bikes without helmets and had no way to contact our parents if we needed them. So why do we shield our own children from this freedom, knowing that were creating risks for them later in life?

Research is now showing that many more university students lack the ability to make decisions and live independently than ever before. They dont have the work ethic that their parents had, preferring to change jobs rather than put in the effort. They quit rather than challenge themselves to improve at work or home. They can suffer anxiety, depression and vulnerabilities that their more resilient friends avoid.

So within reason, we have to let our children make decisions for themselves, fight their own battles and make do without our assistance. And when theyre teenagers, we must allow them some of the freedoms that we had ourselves. Its difficult allowing our children to negotiate their own paths; but in the long run, its absolutely necessary that we do.

Introducing ~ Bespoke Party Products

Featured/ New Product/ Review

No two events are the same and products from Bespoke Party Products reflect this. I take great enjoyment in becoming part of others celebrations, working alongside clients to create custom, hand-crafted items and add that special element to events. I make everything from invitations to custom favour boxes to personalised teabags. My favourite products are the custom spoons and favour boxes. Customers often contact me with an idea or existing range of stationery and ask me to create bespoke items to compliment their event.

Not everyone has a craft room filled with punches, ribbons and other paraphernalia. It is easy to become overwhelmed by the stress and time-constraints of organizing an event. With this in mind, Bespoke Party Products was founded. Unique, fully assembled products are created for weddings, parties and events. Tailor-made paper is designed to your exact specifications and existing items can be matched. Products are then assembled to the highest standard with ribbon, embellishments before they are delivered to you, worldwide.

Contributing to an unforgettable event and creating memories that will last a lifetime with my individual creations is the inspiration behind Bespoke Party Products.

Meet the Maker – Teapea Design

5 minutes with/ Handmade business/ Introducing/ Meet The Maker

Tell us about your business:

Teapea Design is all about beautiful colours, prints and patterns made in to practical products. At the moment, Teapea Designs products focus on handmade gifts for babies. The website sells a range of items, from bibs to hair accessories and bunting. I also have a blog and write creative tutorials.

What inspired you to start your business?

I have always loved designing and creating. I especially love creating beautiful items that have a practical use. When my friends started having their first babies a few years ago I naturally made them gifts for their little ones. After such positive feedback I started making items to sell. I’ve been working full time since starting Teapea so everything has been moving at a snails pace, but I finally feel like I’m up and running and am just scratching the surface of something really exciting.

Is there an interesting anecdote behind your business name?

Its a strange one, but I have a bit of an obsession with collecting teapots and anything with peacocks on it. So I combined my two loves, teapots and peacocks and came up with the name Teapea!
