Featured Store: Darcey & Grace

Just new to the online world of handmade goodness is a lovely new store called Darcey & Grace (and I would love to point out that the Darcey & Grace website is a very good example of a website that is classic and understated! I love the look of this new site!).

Darcey & Grace hail from Bendigo, Victoria and create a handmade range of exclusive childrens bed linen and accessories. Their goal is to create stylish and unique designs for your children. Our kids are very lucky! The designs and colour combos are gorgeous and definitely not run of the mill!

Darcey & Grace’s collections are designed around a seasonal selection of gorgeous new fabrics, focussing on both classical and contemporary designs. Their bed linen range can build on your theme and give your childs bedroom a unique look.

Also available are some lovely accessories that cover the three P’s – well Priced, Practical and Pretty!

I’ve had a great time following Darcey & Grace on Facebook too since they opened their store in April 2011, and suggest you should too!  And it might be a good idea to sign up to their newsletter too to keep abreast of markets that you will be able to find Darcey & Grace at!

And given that it is a chilly wintery day in my neck of the woods, I think I might go and hop under some bed linen myself 🙂

Night night

Sheeps Clothing Winter Warmers

Uncategorized

With winter now well and truly on the way, theres no better time for us to launch the 2011 Sheeps Clothing range.

As always, we continue to use only pure Australian wool in our range of hand knits.  Our solid colour yarn is sourced from a boutique yarn grower in the NSW highlands and our super soft and pretty range of semi solid colours is hand dyed by an artisan dyer here in Melbourne.

My own personal love affair with vintage buttons shows no signs of waning and by continuing to use them in our range I have an ongoing excuse to buy more!

Our classic cabled beanie is a new product this year and were sure its timeless styling will make it a keeper.

The pocket scarf continues to be one of our best sellers and is shown here with the eyelet knit hat with detachable flower.

For the boys, our popular ribbed beanies are back, this time in bi coloured stripes.

Our winter 2011 photo shoot was held on a beautiful early autumn evening in Melbourne.  My sincerest thanks goes to Leanne of hbfotografic and our sweet little models who worked together to show the Sheeps Clothing range at its finest. œ

Making Wishes Come True: Groovy Goose

Accessorize/ Featured

When I was 18 years old (not that long ago *gulp*!) I was a receptionist at a hotel/motel type place. One of our guests was an older gentleman who was an antique seller/collector and I love a chat so we were chatting about things, his work, stuff about the town I lived in, etc. He came back the next day and gave me gorgeous three inch high cast iron ornament of a wizened old man with a walking stick and he said to me something along the lines of “Thank you your help and kindness.  This is for you. People will do things in your life that will make you never forget them. I hope this is one thing you will never forget.”  And I haven’t. The old man gave me more than just an ornament, he gave me the gift of giving.

And isn’t that the amazing thing about human beings. We have so much to give and with giving comes hope and love and inspiration. Giving doesn’t have to be about grand gestures and huge wads of cash – sometimes it really is the little things that can make a big difference.

Rest assured, I have a point and I’m getting there slowly!

Speaking of giving, I’m so happy to share with you that one of our great friends, Heidi at Groovy Goose is now an official fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish® Australia.  Heidi has designed and created a series of gorgeous linen textured cards and is running a card a thon to raise money to help grant the cherished wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.  Here are a selection of cards available:

Aren’t they beautiful! All cards are blank for your own personal message and can be used for all sorts of special occasions.

I totally love the designs and gorgeous graphics on these cards,
and what is also fabulous is that there is FREE postage when you buy these cards!

Make-A-Wish® Australia receives $3 from every six pack of cards sold and $5 for every ten pack of cards sold. I just got the old calculator out (maths not my strong point okay!) and if you buy these beautiful Australian cards in a 10 pack, the cost comes down to $2.50 each.

Make-A-Wish® Australia ethos is a simple yet poignant one – “We grant the Wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”

I’m lucky to have a healthy, active child and our prayers and love go out to the parents and carers of children that are the deserving recipients of Make-A-Wish® Australia.

I commend Heidi and the Groovy Goose team for their generosity and creativity and urge all our Handmade Kids readers to support this worthy cause!

If you hang out on our Facebook page you would have seen the other day we had a little chat about movies from our youth. Together with my sister we are trying to get copies of all our favourite child/teen movies and rewatch them and rediscovering all that magically 80’s wonder.

ahhhh McDreamy before he was McDreamy!  Far too many super cool movies from this era to mention, from the downright daggy to the classic.

And in honour of Can’t be Me Love, here are a few love items.
